Spicy Baked Avocado Fries

Appetizers & Side Dishes

Spicy baked avocado fries are a delicious and fun way to enjoy avocado and reap their nutritional benefits! They’re easy to make and can be eaten as is or put into a taco!

As I write this blog post the old question about avocados stands true as ever: “What can’t avocados do?!” Truly, the answer is nothing! I think I could eat avocado toast every single day and never get sick of it, and I’m betting if you’re looking for this recipe you could too!

Baked avocado fries are a fun way to switch up the way you eat avocado. As Rob and I were trying these when they came out of the oven, Rob asked if they were supposed to be like a mozzarella stick for people who don’t eat cheese. I didn’t think of them like that at all but the realized that’s exactly what they taste like.

They totally have that mozzarella stick mouthfeel and crunch, and while I didn’t try them dipped in marinara sauce, I’m better that wouldn’t be half bad!

I can’t wait for you to try them and to hear what you think!

nutrition benefits of avocado

Avocados are quite the superfood aren’t they?! We know they’re delicious, but did you know just how good they are for you?!

Let’s start here. Avocados are a fruit and contain the good kind of fat called monounsaturated fat. Monounsaturated fat is the same type of fat that is found in olive oil and has heart-healthy properties and helps to decrease inflammation.

Another cool thing about the fat found in avocados is that it helps you to better absorb fat soluble vitamins. Vitamin A, D, K, and E are all fat soluble vitamins, and when you eat something that contains them along with a source of fat, your body can better absorb them. Win, win!

Avocados are also a good source of fiber, folate, and vitamin E, and K and contain more potassium than a banana!

Avocado fries are a super fun and unique way to enjoy everyones favorite fruit! They’re baked and crispy and made slightly in the recipe that I know you’ll love.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 12 minutes
Servings 15 + slices

Ingredients

  • 2 avocados
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • lime optional

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 420 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • 2. Whisk eggs together in one small bowl. In another small bowl combine panko, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt and pepper.
  • 3. Slice avocado, dip one slice at a time into the egg mixture and then into the panko mixture. The slices don’t have to be completely covered in the breadcrumbs, but mostly. Place each, one by one on the baking sheet.
  • 4. Bake for approximately 12 minutes, remove from oven, squeeze a little lime over, and enjoy!

Notes

When picking avocados to use for this recipe, you’ll want ones that are on the harder side of soft. If the avocado it too mushy the slices will not hold together and you won’t be able to dip them!
